Make Age-Related Hair Loss a Thing of the Past With PRP Treatments

By: Dr. Carolyn DeLucia

Hair loss can be a devastating blow to a man or woman’s appearance and wreak havoc on their self-confidence. At The Secret Orchid, we strive to help our patients attain fuller, richer hair through PRP hair loss treatments, an innovative approach to help reverse baldness and stimulate hair growth. Dr. Carolyn DeLucia works with patients throughout Hillsborough Township, NJ to address age-related hair loss and thinning hair.

What are PRP hair loss treatments?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) hair loss treatment is a nonsurgical approach to slowing, stopping, or reversing hair loss by utilizing the growth factors in your blood. The growth factors are carefully mixed with a solution of bioactive proteins and administered to your scalp, possibly resulting in fuller, thicker locks. At The Secret Orchid, Dr. DeLucia works with each patient to determine the cause of their hair loss to see if PRP hair loss treatments would be the appropriate intervention for them.

Who uses PRP hair loss treatments?

PRP hair loss treatments have shown promise for patients with:

  • Male-patterned baldness

  • Thinning eyebrows

  • Age-related hair loss

  • Alopecia areata

Treatments are not designed to regenerate new hair follicles; rather, the PRP serum is used to stimulate already existing hair follicles that are failing to produce full hair. Dr. DeLucia will assess the nature of your baldness to help determine what stage(s) of growth your hair follicles are going through to ascertain if PRP treatments may be effective for you.

What the treatment process looks like

Patients receive PRP hair loss treatments within the comforts of one of our private treatment rooms at The Secret Orchid, which take approximately 30 minutes to complete. A sample of blood is taken, which is put in a centrifuge to separate the growth factors for the treatment serum. A local anesthetic is applied to the scalp, and the treatments are injected into areas where hair is balding or thinning. Once your session is finished, you may return home or resume normal daily activities.

Is there a recovery period?

PRP hair loss treatments require no downtime or recovery period. Patients often experience tenderness, redness, or swelling at each injection site, which subsides within a couple of days. If you have concerns or are experiencing uncomfortable symptoms for longer than 48 hours after your initial treatment, contact our clinic right away.

How long will it take to notice results?

Individuals will notice results at slightly different times after treatment due to the high variability in each person’s blood. However, many patients generally see healthy outcomes within 4 – 6 months after their initial treatment.

How many treatments will I need?

Although PRP hair loss treatments produce incredible results, outcomes are not permanent, and patients will need to attend follow-up appointments to maintain their desired hair fullness. Dr. DeLucia generally recommends that patients return once every 12 – 18 months.
